Wordle 8

Welcome.  This is the first prompt for The Sunday Whirl at WordPress. The post is titled Wordle 8 as many of you titled your blog posts from A Wordling Whirl of Sundays consecutively. I’ll be playing with the theme of the blog, and will add your blogs to the blog roll as you participate.

For this week’s wordle, I chose words from pieces at three relatively new WordPress blogs.  At each blog I had specific syllabic parameters. From Richard Walker’s piece Do You Like It? at Sadly Waiting for Recess, I selected four 1-syllable words: bold, strange, sleep, and wish.  From Pamela Sayer’s diamantes Life and Death at her new blog wordsandthoughts, I selected four 3-syllable words:  devious, enchanting, alluring, and  inspiring.  From my own new blog, undercaws, I chose four 2-syllable words from undercaws’ inaugural poem, street art: lotus, kinship, torsos, and stories.

I look forward to reading your responses, and I hope you are all okay with the move. I haven’t figured out Mr. Linky, but if you cut and past the url for your piece in the comments it becomes a link. Easy Peasy.

Oh, the first time you post here, I will need to approve your comments. I’ll be away at a family event from 8-noon mountain standard time Sunday. Then I’ll be around all day to approve your posts and read what you create.

  1. Hi, I see from other comments your name is Brenda, so is mine! But, I mostly am called Bren.
I really enjoyed this challenge. Here’s my entry link for the Bakers Dozen:
Couldn’t think of a suitable title so I called it Wordle Words LOL (hope you don’t mind) I would be honoured if you would add me to your blogroll too. Thanks so much for organising it for us to take part in.

Hi Brenda-I found you through Margo Roby’s Wordgathering blog, and I’m so glad. This was a challenging prompt–and I REALLY like those.

I tried using more of the words in another poem, “You Make Up Your Mind”

Mine is late, but I wanted to wait for We Write Poems, as the poem refers to both prompts:

Thank you for adding me to the blogroll. However, I’m a MYSTICAL teacher, not a “mystery” teacher. Could you make the correction, please? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  6. Mr. Walker says:

Brenda, thanks for choosing words from one of my poems; I’m blushing. (Is there an emoticon for that?) Oh, and thanks for adding me to the blogroll already. Here is my poem: Incomparable (WordPress) or Incomparable(Blogspot)

  7. This is my first visit to Sunday Whirl (courtesy of this week’s We Write Poems prompt). Here’s my poem:

Looking good. Kind of an understated elegance.

I mostly played sound and nonsense this time around.

Laurie, The thing I miss the most about blogger is my blog roll. It comes in by most recent posts with titles and a snippet from the piece. I miss my blogroll being the same here. It allowed me to see if I’d already read a piece before I clicked the link.

Otherwise, WordPress is superior, in my opinion. I did have to give up followers, but maybe that’s a good exercise in ego control. 🙂 There are many bells & whistles that make it fun. It’s all behind the scenes stuff. I haven’t learned how to tweak much out here, yet.

About a week in, I’m happy with my decision to move.

      • vivinfrance says:

You can add a widget to your wordpress blog, which shows recent comments.
and they also show up on your dashboard – which needs regular checking anyway to make sure “spam” really is spam, and not a proper comment.

      • brenda w says:

Thanks Viv, I’ll look into that one. I noticed that “pingbacks” were showing up and I delete them when I see them, but they are sneaky little things. 🙂

I just changed something under discussion settings that should take care of the problem. No more pingbacks to articles linked (I’m no even really sure what it means, but I think it will help.)

  14. I enjoyed writing this little tale. Love the look here, Brenda.

  18. Margo Roby says:

I love the new look: bright and crisp. Lovely colours. See you later in the week when I post. And, welcome to wordpress.

    • brenda w says:

Thanks Margo, I’ll look forward to your post. I’m a bit concerned that the link colors blend in too well. My husband who is color blind said he can’t see them at all. I think I’ll darken those up. I’m glad you like the color scheme, though. I do, too. It’ll go with a lot of the available wordle colors, too. 🙂

  19. Marianne says:

WOW! You’ve been busy! Your new site looks great! Thanks for making your blog such a fun place to visit. Looks like you’ve given us another awesome wordle challenge this week!

    • brenda w says:

Thank you for your kind words, Marianne. It’s worth it to do it, when I read all the poems, plus it gives me inspiration to write something myself. 🙂 It feels good to see that you think The Sunday Whirl is a “fun place to visit.”
      Happy writing,
      ~Brenda

  20. Irene says:

Yes the words did. I did a poem. Thanks Brenda!

  23. magicalmysticalteacher says:

May I just use a word or two, or is the expectation that every word will be incorporated into what I write? Just curious…

    • brenda w says:

You can use any number of words, or forms of the words. The words are provided for inspiration and direction. Sometimes they all speak to you, sometimes a few of them just won’t wiggle their way into your piece. I hope you decide to join in the fun.

  24. brenda w says:

May the words open a path for you. I think I’ll choose next week’s words by syllables, again. It sure made selection easy. 🙂
